For your Larger-than-Life luxury self-catering country retreat in the Sothern Drakensberg, look no further than the Belfast Guest House.

Be it for that much needed break on your trip to the Wild Coast, Kokstad, Eastern Cape or Umtata, (and on your way back of course!), it is ideally situated just off the R617.

Or, be it for that perfect base from which to discover the Southern Drakensberg World Heritage sites including the famous Sani Pass.

The minute you arrive you will be tempted to enjoy a stretch of the legs, a stroll or even a jog in the fresh air and the scenic countryside, and then it will be time to relax in the warmth of the fireplaces in winter, or to set fire to the barbeque and watch the sun set in the summer.

On the property, within walking distance from the house, there is pristine river and 2 stocked dams suitable for fly-fishing (T&Cs apply). For the outdoor enthusiast – bring your hiking shoes, mountain-bike/bicycle, kayak, binoculars  and passport if you want to take a trip up Sani Pass).

R500 per person per night – R250 per Child under 10
Babies under 2 years stay free.

Kindly bring cash for extras. Fishing fees, boat hire, firewood and DSTV are not included in the rates.
A minimum of R1000 per night out of season and R2700 per night in season and long weekends.


The house sleeps 9 people in total. The main bedroom has a king-size bed and a TV. A second bedroom has twin three quarter beds. Both of these bedrooms have large ensuite full bathrooms with heated towel rails. A third bedroom has twin single beds and a separate full bathroom with heated towel rails. The 4th bedroom sleeps 3 people in single beds, who can share a shower, toilet and hand basin ensuite and or the separate bathroom. Linen and towels provided.

The kitchen is fully equipped including large side by side fridge / freezer, a dishwasher, electric eye-level oven and a gas top stove. The lounge/dining room is very spacious, comfortably furnished and has an enclosed combustion fireplace.
The bar has a large screen TV and an open fireplace.

The beauty of this magnificent house is its sheer orientation! The main bedroom, the open plan living area AND the bar all open onto a LONG verandah, which is equipped with chairs, tables and a built-in barbeque, offering unbeatable views of the sun setting over the berg in the west, and shelter from the easterly.

Welcome fire wood, teas and coffee are available on arrival. There is also solar backup for lighting and DSTV on request.

Easily visible from the tar road, you can’t miss it when travelling between Underberg and Kokstad. We would also like to assure you, that one night is
not going to be even half enough so don’t even think about it!

What to do & What to see

Total relaxation and appreciation for natures beauty. Privacy and seclusion from the rest of the farm.

Hiking – Take a walk around the farm. – Stroll along the river front to the waterfall or if you’re feeling more energetic hike the mountain trail.

Fishing – The river is available to all. There are two dams stocked with trout and we request a catch and release policy. A rowing boat is available for use on the main dam (Life jackets are compulsory and oars available on request).

Mountain Bikes – Bring your own and enjoy the terrain.

Bird Watching – From Eagles to rock hoppers, crowned cranes to chats. See what you can spot and let us know if you see something interesting.

Swimming – In the river pools or the waterfall pool. Tubing – For the energetic try the river during summer – or float on the dam.

4X4 – Conquer the mighty Sani Pass and have a drink at the highest pub in Africa.
